Gold Line Ridership Hits Record High

Posted by Rodrigo

The Metro Gold Line has once again posted record ridership figures. In July 2011, average weekday ridership surpassed 40,000 boardings for the first time since the line began operating in 2003. To accommodate the expanding ridership, Metro is now operating three car trains with increased headways (every six minutes) during peak periods.

Below is a comparative look, provided by Metro, at how this July compares to the last two (keep in mind, the Eastside Extension opened in November 2009):

I despute the numbers published above. Everyday I take the goldline to work, for every one person that pays the fair and token to ride the train, there are at least 5 people that DO NOT pay anything and just head straight into the goldline train. Why aren’t there any barriers to prohibit illegal non-paying riders. Why is it base on honor system because we all know there are very few honest people left in the society.

The MTA shall install phyiscal barriers and make sure everyone pay to ride the train and not have County was money on sheriff patrol that are a waste and effective. In European and Asian Countries, everyone has to pay to ride the subway trains and mass transit system, and the revenue generated are reinvested into the mass transit system. Why is MTA the only lazy irresponsible agency that lets people ride for free because if you do a real count, there are more riders than DO NOT pay to ride than there are paid riders. Fix this problem ASAP.

The County sheriff patrol’s are a waste of money and extremely ineffective because they pick and choose who to issue citations. I have used the gold line everyday to work for the past Eight years. I never see crowded trains, today as I have seen in the past. Maybe more trains are the reason. Too many people are not paying for the ride. Metro get your act together on this issue and admit to your self the honor system was a mistake. Fix this issue now.
