About Us

I Will Ride was formed by Mt. Sierra College students in 2008 to engage students at colleges and universities across the San Gabriel Valley to support the construction of the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension. They wanted to see the line become a reality sooner rather than later. The students gathered signatures for petitions, launched a website (not this one), spoke to the media, and made their presence felt at Metro Board meetings. Though Metro rebuffed efforts to include funding for the Foothill Extension in its long-range plan, the overwhelming support for the Foothill Extension helped persuade Metro and California legislators to include funding for the project in Measure R – the voter-approved half-cent sales tax initiative to raise money for transportation improvements throughout Los Angeles County.

The I Will Ride campaign created a platform for identifying other supporters of the line from throughout the San Gabriel Valley. The college students turned the campaign over to the Metro Gold Line Foothill Extension Construction Authority in January 2009. Since then, the Construction Authority has expanded the I Will Ride campaign to educate stakeholders from throughout the San Gabriel Valley about the project and how to get involved. Representatives have gone to college campuses, medical campuses, fairs and expos, and created this blog and the associated I Will Ride Twitter site to spread the word about the project and to create a place that stakeholders could use to voice their views.
