Los Angeles Metro’s Foothill Gold Line Extension from Pasadena to Azusa opens March 5. The 11.5-mile extension includes six new stations: Arcadia, Monrovia, Duarte/City of Hope, Irwindale, Azusa Downtown and APU/Citrus College. The Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority planned, designed and built the line, which it will turn over to Metro to operate and maintain.

I am happy to see that the March 5 opening date has not been delayed. I attended meetings on this extension back in the early nineties and it is sad that it has taken this long to get it to this point. The problem for me is that I have gone from my late forties to my mid-seventies. It would have been nice to have been able to use the train then.

Having worked in construction for forty some years I find it amazing that the Citrus extension will not be completed in time of the opening. This is indeed incompetence on the part of the city staff and a kowtowing to the builder/developers. This extension has been under construction for years. How could a city ask for an extension! It is sad to see politics of one city get in the way of something that has become a necessity for the entire region beyond the boundaries of one city.
