After 13 years on the dais, Councilmember Robin Carder has announced she will not seek re-election to the La Verne City Council in June.

Carder decided to step away from the council to spend more time with family, she wrote in a statement released by the city Wednesday, Feb. 23. With years of regular monthly meetings and responsibilities as a council member, Carder wrote, “now is the time” to be with her grandchildren.

“My devotion to this great city will be forever strong and I will continue to volunteer my time to our community as I have done for the past 42 years that my family has lived here,” Carder wrote. “My motto has always been ‘Make a positive difference in someone else’s life’ and I believe we have all accomplished that together.”

First elected in 2009, Carder served three terms on the council. She represented the city on various boards and committees, including as vice chairperson for the Gold Line Construction Authority, and chairperson for the Youth and Family Action Committee, Fourth of July Committee and more.

Carder’s seat on the Gold Line Construction Authority will need be filled after she departs the council, she confirmed by phone Wednesday.
