State funds Pomona-to-Montclair light rail, first LA Metro project to San Bernardino County – Los Angeles Daily News, San Gabriel Valley Tribune, Inland Valley Daily Bulletin

The future Pomona light-rail station (for the A-Line train) is located west of Garey Avenue and east of Fulton Road, northeast of the existing Pomona North Metrolink station. The light rail station is the last one in phase 2B of the A Line extension, set to be completed in January 2025. The state on July 8, 2024 allocated about $500 million for the next leg, to Claremont and Montclair. That will be the first LA Metro train to reach San Bernardino County. The California State Transportation Agency (CalSTA) released close to $500 million for the 3.2-mile extension from Pomona to Claremont and Montclair in the Inland Empire. The rest of the money for the $798 million project will be allocated by the end of this year, officials said.

The construction contract award is set for spring 2025. The five-year project should be completed by 2030, said Habib Balian, CEO of the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority on Monday, July 8.

“It is a great day for the Authority,” Balian said. “The timing is perfect. It gives us everything we need to get the project all the way to Montclair.”

“This is a momentous occasion. It is a historic moment allowing the counties of Los Angeles and San Bernardino to connect through light-rail transit,” said Claremont City Councilmember Ed Reese who is chairman of the Gold Line Construction Authority board.

Reece said having the first light-rail train connecting the two counties can address traffic created by households moving from L.A. County to San Bernardino County in the last 10 years for less-expensive housing, but who still drive to work in L.A. County.

This is really good news. Glad to see that the original plan is coming to reality. What I am hoping in the future is the extension to Rancho Cucamonga for the future Brightline Vegas line. OR, at least Brightline can service Ontario Station in future while the A Line go to Ontario Airport. At lease there will be a connection for Metro with Brightline for those going to Vegas.

For the California High Speed Rail and Brightline extending into downtown Los Angeles, I hope that Brightline and CHSR stops at El Monte at the El Monte busway. There, one can transfer to all buses servicing the El Monte Busway Station, Silver Line, Silver Streak (Foothill Transit), El Monte bus service, CHSR in between San Diego and Union Station in L.A., and Brightline if it goes to Union Station in the future.

This will make transit number one with all of these connections under one roof. To bad we cannot get a Metro to El Monte busway any time soon.
