The Construction Authority took another major step to ready the 12.3-mile Foothill Gold Line light rail project from Glendora to Montclair for construction when it hosted an Industry Workshop today in Monrovia, CA. The event drew more than 200 small business representatives and prime contractors interested in upcoming business opportunities with the Construction Authority and helping to build the nearly $1.4 billion, six-station Glendora to Montclair segment.

Event attendees were given the opportunity to network and meet potential teaming partners before receiving information from key project representatives on the upcoming contracting opportunities and project status and timeline. Attendees also learned about the Construction Authority’s Small Business Enterprise (SBE) program, which has a goal of 16.6% participation by SBEs in all contracts.

Small businesses in attendance ranged in key specialties integral to designing and building a light rail project, including civil, structural, systems, utilities and architecture. All attendees were added to the Project Interest List that will be given to prime contractors who will be bidding on the two significant contracts to be procured in the next 18 months by the Construction Authority for the project – (1) Utility Relocation design-bid-build contract and (2) Alignment design-build contract.

Its nice to see the Gold Line extension to Montclair is up and running. However, why is the completion time so far in the future?
Apparently the money is available, let’s get this show on the road, and FastTrack this project. I will be 76 years old in November
and I would like to get some benefit out of the extension, before I die. I realize this is a big project, and there is a lot of work to be
done, but why do we have to wait another 18 months for contractors to bid on the various jobs?

      Hi Jeff,

The Glendora to Montclair extension will be built in a shared corridor with active freight and Metrolink service, so the project will actually consist of two major construction phases: first, the relocation of the freight and Metrolink tracks and Claremont Metrolink station (while minimizing disruptions to freight and Metrolink service), and second, the construction of the light rail system itself. This is the reason for the timeline. The engineers are still currently working to finalizing the design of the project to be ready for the design-build procurement.
