There are plenty of challenges involved in building a light-rail system.

Securing the funding, relocating existing railroad tracks and meeting project deadlines are just some of the issues that come up. But amid all of those challenges there is one certainty — people will be needed to do the work.

A BIG TURNOUT

The prospect of getting one of those contracts drew an estimated 200 businesses to the DoubleTree Hotel in Monrovia on Wednesday to learn about opportunities related to a 12.3-mile extension of the Foothill Gold Line. It will route the light rail system from Glendora to Montclair.

The workshop was hosted by the Foothill Gold Line Construction Authority, which is planning, designing and building the rail line.
