Train culture has arrived in the San Gabriel Valley. The place where my wife, Karen, and I bought our first home — Monrovia — now has a train that runs to Duarte, Irwindale, Azusa, Citrus Avenue and of course, west to Pasadena and L.A., connecting to the old Gold Line.

I remember driving past that old, abandoned Santa Fe Station for years, thinking one day it will be a real train station. I was only half right. The new station is about 40 feet west. The old one, its windows boarded up with plywood and rust streaks falling from the windows like tears, may become a new restaurant/lounge.

At the Monrovia “Station Square” is where I ran into Anthony Di Santo and Angie Attanasio. Anthony now calls Monrovia home. Only difference between me and him in Monrovia is the train.
